Sustainable Development
IUSY Summer School in Werftpfuhl.
Vom 14. bis 21. August 2005 findet in der Jugendbildungsstätte Kurt Löwenstein die IUSY Summer School on Sustainable Development statt. Eingeladen sind Jugendliche aus IUSY-Mitgliedsorganisationen, also auch der SJD - Die Falken.
Nachhaltige Entwicklung
"Sustainable Development" ist nicht nur politisch sehr aktuell sondern auch der diesjährige politische Schwerpunkt der IUSY (International Union Socialist Youth), der auf dem IUSY World Council beschlossen wurde. Auch die IFM-SEI, die Internationale Falkenbewegung, befasst sich mit Sustainability und veranstaltet ihr IFM-Camp im kommenden Jahr für 5.000 Jugendliche im Süden Englands zur Umsetzung der "Millenium Development Goals". Es gibt also viele Gründe, bereits diesen Sommer zur Summer School zu fahren!
Die Entwicklungsziele der Vereinten Nationen zur weltweiten nachhaltigen Entwicklung
Am 10. September diesen Jahres werden die Vereinten Nationen auf einem Gipfel über die Fortschritte in Sachen Millenium Development Goals beraten. Diese MDGs sollen bis 2015 zum entscheidenden Abbau der weltweiten extremen Armut führen.
Junge SozialistInnen und SozialdemokratInnen wollen mehr
Auf der IUSY Summer School soll nicht nur über die MDGs diskutiert werden. Vielmehr sind sich junge SozialistInnen einig, dass der Weg zu einer gerechteren Welt über freien und gleichberechtigten Zugang zu Bildung, über Abbau von Diskriminierung und strukturelle Verbesserungen der Partizipationsmöglichkeiten von Frauen führen muss. Auch Diskriminierungen wg. sexueller Orientierung können nicht hingenommen werden.
Daher sind auf der Summer School auch Themen vorgesehen wie Kampf für Gleichberechtigung, Soziale Akzeptanz und Legalisierung gleichgeschlechtlicher Partnerschaften. Diskussionen und Workshops sind auf der Summer School wichtig, aber auch Partys und kultureller Austausch kommen nicht zu kurz! Also meldet euch an - und habt Spaß!

On the 10th of September the UN +5 summit will take place to debate the fulfilment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 as agreed upon in the UN millennium declaration. Of all the goals set, the first one is to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger all around the world. Meaning that governments have committed themselves to halve, between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of people whose income is less than $1 a day and Halve, between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of people who suffer from hunger. Goal two of the MDGs is to achieve universal primary education by ensuring that, by 2015, children everywhere, boys and girls alike, will be able to complete a full course of primary schooling. Goals three is to promote gender equality and empower women by eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education, preferably by 2005, and in all levels of education no later than 2015. As it looks right now these goals will not be achieved in 2015 but in 2145. The fight for the achievement of the MDGs have to be increased all around the world by improved commitment of governments as well as the increased involvement of the civil society.
Young Socialists want more than MDGs
The MDGs alone are not sufficient when socialists and social democrats from all over the world speak about Sustainable Development. Education is the tool for ending poverty and therefor free and equal access to education for everybody needs to be insured in the future. Woman often are lacking fundamental women rights and even if they have rights they have to deal with far reaching structural discrimination, keeping woman still today oppressed all over the world. Only a society with gender equality can be sustainable and the adoption and implementation of equal opportunity programmes in all countries to achieve gender equality is desperately needed. Lesbi, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual people are often denied same living conditions. Fighting for equality, social acceptance and same sex marriage are issues that are part of sustainable development, for that socialists and social democrats have to remain fighting. These issues will be debated during the coming summer school next to having great fun during special parties and cultural exchanges.

Every member organisation is invited to send (maximum of three) participants to participate in each of the three working groups during the summer school. By sending back the confirmation form to iusy@iusy.org, mauriceclaassens@euronet.nl and r.graesle@kurt-loewenstein.de the participants will be able to apply no later then 15th of July 2005. Unfortunately due to financial limitations IUSY will not be able to give travel reimbursement, but exceptions can be made on the basis of the application.
